The Solution Train Engineer (STE) is a key facilitator of Agile Release Trains (ARTs), the primary value delivery construct in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The STE's main responsibility is to ensure that multiple ARTs and suppliers work together seamlessly to deliver solutions. They facilitate and guide the work of all ARTs and suppliers in the Solution Train.
Responsibilities
Focusing on facilitating and guiding the work of multiple ARTs and suppliers towards delivering large and complex solutions.
Facilitating Program Increment (PI) Planning events for the solution train,
Assisting with execution and Feature completion tracking,
Facilitating Agile ceremonies across teams, such as Scrum of Scrums and the System Demo,
Coaching leaders, teams, and Scrum Masters in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets,
Driving continuous improvement through the facilitation of Inspect and Adapt workshops,
Managing and optimizing the flow of value through the Solution Train using various tools, such as the Solution Kanban and other information radiators,
Establishing and communicating the annual calendars for Iterations and Program Increments (PIs),
Working with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment.
Ensuring that the various ARTs within the Solution Train are aligned and that the Solution Train is effectively addressing the larger solution objectives and milestones.
Qualifications and Requirements
Certified SAFe Program Consultant (SPC) or SAFe Release Train Engineer (RTE) certification,
Proven experience in facilitating large-scale Agile programs,
Strong understanding of software development life cycles, DevOps culture, and Lean-Agile principles,
Excellent communication, leadership, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
