StackFactor comes with a library of role templates. Importing one gives you a complete role — responsibilities, qualifications, and the skills it needs — in a few minutes. You can then customize it to fit your team.
In the app, importing is called Start from a template.
BEFORE YOU START
- You need permission to author content (Author content or Promote content). If you don't see the red + button on the Roles page, ask your StackFactor admin.
- Search your roles first to make sure the role doesn't already exist.
Import the role
- 1Open the Capability Map and select Roles.
- 2Hover over the red + button and choose Start from a template.
- 3Type in the Search... box to find a template, select it, and click Select.
- 4Review the role on the Add page. It's filled in with the template's details and skills. Any of those skills your organization doesn't have yet are imported automatically when you save.
- 5If a note about technical stacks appears, remove any flagged skills your team doesn't need.
- 6Click Save. You'll see New role created.
Publish it
A newly imported role is saved as a draft, so your team won't see it yet. Make any changes you need, then publish it. See How to Customize a Role.
TIPS
- Role names must be unique. If you see A role with the same name already exists., the role is already in your organization, so edit that one instead.
- If a template is updated later, the role's card shows Newer template version available so you can bring the changes in.
