Business Analyst — SAP Focus
Business Consulting and Services > Research, Analysis, and InsightsSummary
The Business Analyst (BA) serves as a critical translator and facilitator between business stakeholders and delivery teams, ensuring that technology solutions — whether in SAP implementations, data & analytics platforms, custom application development, or enterprise transformation programs — accurately address real business needs, pain points, and strategic objectives. The BA elicits, analyzes, structures, and documents requirements in clear, unambiguous formats; models current and future-state processes; defines acceptance criteria; manages scope and change; and validates that delivered solutions meet intended outcomes. Operating in both waterfall and Agile environments, the BA drives requirement clarity, reduces miscommunication, minimizes rework, and supports high stakeholder satisfaction through structured elicitation, strong documentation, and continuous alignment. Domain variants exist (SAP-focused on process/configuration alignment, Data-focused on KPIs/metrics/reporting logic, Application-focused on user journeys/UX), but the core value remains: defining “what” and “why” should be built to deliver measurable business value.
Responsibilities
Conduct stakeholder interviews, workshops, surveys, and observation sessions to elicit, discover, and prioritize business needs, pain points, goals, and constraints.
Analyze and document functional and non-functional requirements, business rules, data needs, reporting/KPI definitions, and user interactions in structured formats.
Author and maintain key artifacts: Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), Functional Requirement Documents/Specifications (FRDs), user stories/epics (Agile), use cases, acceptance criteria, and traceability matrices.
Model business processes using BPMN, swim-lane diagrams, value stream maps, or similar notations to represent current (“as-is”) and target (“to-be”) states.
Facilitate requirement reviews, walkthroughs, and sign-offs with business and IT stakeholders to ensure shared understanding and alignment.
Perform gap analysis between current capabilities and desired outcomes; recommend solutions leveraging standard platform features or justified customizations.
Support change management by assessing impact of requested changes, updating documentation, and maintaining scope control.
Collaborate during solution validation: clarify ambiguities during development, support UAT script creation/execution, verify delivered functionality against requirements, and log defects or clarifications.
Contribute to business case development, ROI estimation, and benefit realization tracking where applicable.

Proven success eliciting and documenting requirements that led to successful solution delivery with high stakeholder satisfaction and low post-delivery defects/change volume.
