Enterprise IT Product Line Head — SAP Focus

Information & Technology > Application/Web Development

Summary

The Enterprise IT Product Line Head is a senior executive leadership role within an internal Enterprise IT organization, owning the full lifecycle and strategic performance of a defined portfolio of IT products/applications clustered around a specific capability area (e.g., ERP ecosystem, collaboration platforms, data & analytics suite, or connectivity services). This position combines strategic portfolio management, financial accountability, operational oversight, and transformation leadership to ensure the product line delivers maximum business value, remains cost-efficient, stable, secure, and aligned with enterprise architecture and CIO priorities. The role answers: “Are we investing in and operating the right set of IT capabilities for this domain, in the most effective, sustainable, and future-proof manner?” The Product Line Head balances run-the-business stability with change-the-business innovation — driving multi-year roadmaps, rationalizing legacy applications, optimizing budgets (run vs. change spend), enforcing governance, managing major incidents, and accelerating modernization (cloud, automation, AI adoption)—while maintaining high stakeholder trust and executive visibility.

Responsibilities

Define and own the multi-year product line strategy and roadmap, aligning with Enterprise IT goals, business demand, enterprise architecture standards, and CIO directives.

Manage the end-to-end portfolio of applications/products within the line: conduct rationalization, lifecycle planning (sunset, consolidate, modernize), and approve major changes or investments.

Own and control the full product line budget: forecast, allocate, track run vs. change spend, drive cost optimization (automation, vendor consolidation, cloud efficiencies), and manage vendor contracts/performance.

Provide delivery and operational governance: ensure predictable execution of initiatives, monitor SLA/KPI adherence, oversee production stability, lead major incident post-mortems, and enforce operational excellence.

Engage executive stakeholders (CIO office, Product Area Heads, business leaders): present performance dashboards, justify investments, report risks/value realization, and drive business satisfaction.

Lead transformation programs within the product line: cloud migrations, DevSecOps maturity uplift, AI/automation adoption in IT processes, and modernization of legacy systems.

Perform portfolio risk assessment, demand forecasting, and capacity planning to balance innovation speed with operational reliability and compliance.

Champion continuous improvement: reduce technical debt, improve MTTR/incident trends, increase automation coverage, and track value realization metrics.

Qualifications and Requirements

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Finance, or a related field; MBA or equivalent advanced business qualification highly desirable.

10–15+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, with at least 5–7 years in senior portfolio, product line, or program management roles within large enterprise IT organizations.

Proven track record owning budgets, delivering multi-year transformations (e.g., ERP modernization like SAP S/4HANA, cloud migrations, application rationalization), and achieving measurable cost reductions and value realization.

Extensive experience managing cross-functional teams, vendors, and executive stakeholders in complex, matrixed environments.

Demonstrated success balancing operational stability (SLA/green KPIs) with strategic change in regulated or high-availability enterprise settings.

Strong background in IT governance, financial accountability, and portfolio rationalization frameworks.

Relevant certifications desirable: ITIL Expert, PMP, TOGAF, SAFe Program Consultant, Cloud provider strategic certifications, or equivalent leadership credentials.
