Contract Management

Professional Skills

Description

Contract Management in procurement is the practical capability to oversee agreements with suppliers from initiation through execution, renewal, or closure, ensuring that commitments deliver expected value while minimizing risk. It enables professionals to draft clear terms, negotiate favorable conditions, monitor supplier performance against obligations, and resolve disputes or variations as they arise. This skill matters because well-managed contracts protect organizations from cost overruns, compliance issues, and broken commitments, while strengthening supplier relationships. In applied work, it shows up in reviewing contract clauses, tracking milestones and deliverables, managing change requests, and coordinating across legal, finance, and operations. Like any professional capability, it develops progressively through hands-on practice, exposure to varied contract scenarios, and feedback from experienced colleagues.

Designs KPIs and scorecards, facilitates business reviews, enforces service credits, drives root cause analysis, and integrates stakeholder feedback into vendor governance.

LEVEL 4
