Django ORM

Information Technology > Database management system

Description

Django ORM (Object-Relational Mapping) is a powerful tool that allows developers to interact with their database like as they would with SQL. In other words, it's a way to create, retrieve, update, and delete records in your database, using Python code instead of writing SQL queries. The beauty of Django ORM is that it's database agnostic, meaning you can switch between different database types with minimal code changes. It also supports advanced features such as migrations (for changing your database schema without losing data), aggregation for performing operations on a group of rows, and transactions for ensuring data consistency.

Expected Behaviors

✎
LEVEL 1

Fundamental Awareness

At this level, individuals are expected to have a basic understanding of what Django ORM is and its purpose. They should be familiar with the fundamental concepts of Django ORM such as models, fields, and relationships.

🌱
LEVEL 2

Novice

Novices should be able to create simple models in Django ORM and perform basic CRUD operations. They should understand how to use Django ORM for database abstraction and create simple queries. They should also grasp the concept of migrations in Django ORM.

🌍
LEVEL 3

Intermediate

Intermediate users should be capable of creating complex models with relationships and performing complex queries using Django ORM. They should understand and use advanced field types and manage database schema changes using migrations. They should also be able to use Django ORM to interact with multiple databases.

⭐
LEVEL 4

Advanced

Advanced users are expected to optimize Django ORM queries for performance and use aggregation and annotation features. They should be able to implement custom model methods and managers, understand and use transactions, and use signals for event-driven programming.

🏆
LEVEL 5

Expert

Experts should have a deep understanding of Django ORM's internal workings and be able to customize it to suit specific needs. They should be proficient in using advanced features like prefetch_related and select_related, and be able to optimize Django ORM for large scale applications. They should also be able to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to Django ORM.
