Description
Selenium is a powerful tool used for automating web browsers. It allows developers and testers to write scripts in several programming languages like Java, C#, Python etc. These scripts can be used to automate the repetitive tasks in web applications, perform cross-browser testing, and validate whether the web applications are working as expected. Selenium supports different operating systems and provides a way to keep track of test cases and generate reports. Advanced users can even integrate it with tools like TestNG and JUnit for managing test cases and generating detailed reports, or use it with Selenium Grid for parallel test execution.
Expected Behaviors
Fundamental Awareness
At this level, individuals have a basic understanding of Selenium and its components like WebDriver and IDE. They are aware of the Selenium Grid but may not have hands-on experience with it. This is the initial stage where they are just getting familiar with the concepts.
Novice
Novices can set up the Selenium environment and write basic scripts. They can use WebDriver for browser automation and identify web elements using Selenium. They also know how to perform actions on these elements and handle alerts or pop-ups.
Intermediate
Intermediate users can implement the Page Object Model (POM) and handle multiple windows and frames. They can work with dropdowns and user inputs, synchronize tests in Selenium, execute JavaScript commands, handle cookies, and capture screenshots.
Advanced
Advanced users can conduct cross-browser testing and data-driven testing. They can generate test reports and integrate their work with TestNG or JUnit. They can execute tests in parallel using Selenium Grid and design and implement automation frameworks.
Expert
Experts can optimize and refactor test code, implement CI/CD with Selenium, and create advanced reports and logs. They can troubleshoot complex issues, conduct performance testing with Selenium, and mobile testing with Appium. They are capable of leading and managing automation projects.
