JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)
Information Technology > Object or component oriented developmentDescription
JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) is a lightweight data-interchange format that's easy to read and write for humans and easy to parse and generate for machines. It's based on a subset of JavaScript language, but it's language-independent, meaning it can be used with most programming languages. JSON is often used to transmit data between a server and a web application or between different parts of a web application. Its main advantage is its simplicity; it uses a straightforward, text-based format that's easy to understand. With JSON, you can represent arrays, objects, numbers, strings, booleans, and nulls.
Expected Behaviors
Fundamental Awareness
At the fundamental awareness level, an individual should understand what JSON is and be able to recognize its syntax. They should also know the basic use of JSON in web applications.
Novice
A novice should be capable of creating simple JSON objects and reading and interpreting JSON data. They should be familiar with JSON.parse() and JSON.stringify() methods and understand the difference between JSON and JavaScript objects.
Intermediate
An intermediate user should be comfortable working with nested JSON objects and manipulating JSON data. They should be able to validate JSON data and understand how to use JSON with AJAX and APIs.
Advanced
At the advanced level, an individual should be proficient in designing complex JSON structures and debugging issues related to JSON. They should be able to optimize JSON performance, secure JSON data, and implement JSON in full-stack development.
Expert
An expert should master JSON schema definitions and develop custom JSON serialization and deserialization logic. They should be capable of integrating JSON with other data formats like XML, CSV, etc., and troubleshoot advanced JSON-related issues. They should also be able to lead and advise on best practices for JSON usage in large scale applications.
