Description
Google Cloud Identity and Access Management (IAM) is a service that helps you manage access control by defining who (identity) has what access (role) for which resource. It provides the necessary tools to create and manage authentication for Google Cloud services. With IAM, you can create policies to grant specific roles to users or groups, allowing them to perform certain actions on resources. You can also set up custom roles for more granular control. Advanced features include managing complex policies across multiple projects, automating tasks, and integrating with other Google Cloud services. Expertise in IAM involves designing secure architectures, optimizing performance, and conducting audits.
Stack
Expected Behaviors
Fundamental Awareness
At this level, individuals have a basic understanding of what Google Cloud IAM is. They are familiar with the concept of service accounts and have a rudimentary knowledge of IAM roles and permissions. However, they may not yet be able to apply this knowledge in a practical setting.
Novice
Novices can create and manage IAM policies and understand how to grant IAM roles to users. They know how to use service accounts and have a basic understanding of IAM best practices. They are beginning to apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios but may still need guidance.
Intermediate
Intermediate users can set up custom IAM roles and manage access control at the organization level. They understand how to use IAM conditions for fine-grained access control and can troubleshoot common IAM issues. They are comfortable using IAM in a professional setting.
Advanced
Advanced users can manage complex IAM policies across multiple projects and understand advanced IAM concepts like policy inheritance and conflict resolution. They can automate IAM tasks using Google Cloud SDK or REST API and know how to integrate IAM with other Google Cloud services. They are capable of handling most IAM tasks independently.
Expert
Experts can design and implement secure IAM architectures for large organizations. They have a deep understanding of IAM internals and how it interacts with other Google Cloud components. They can optimize IAM performance and cost and conduct IAM audits and compliance checks. They are recognized as authorities on Google Cloud IAM.
