How to Complete a Skill Assessment

Assess your experience, proficiency, and interest in a skill, by self-assessment or quiz.

A skill assessment walks you through four short steps: your experience, your proficiency, your interest, and a final review. A self-assessment takes just a few minutes. A quiz takes longer, and you can pause it.

Start an assessment

  1. 1Open Development Hub and select My Talent Stack.
  2. 2Go to the Skills Assessments tab and choose one of your roles to see its skills.
  3. 3On a skill's card, click the assess icon (Start a new skill assessment).

Step 1: Your experience

Tell StackFactor how much experience you have with the skill (Experience) and how long ago you last used it regularly (Last Time Used). If you have no experience with it, the proficiency step is skipped.

Step 2: Your proficiency

Choose Self-Assessment or Quiz. If the skill requires a quiz, you'll only see the quiz.

  • Self-Assessment: move the slider to the level that matches your experience. For each level, you'll see its expected behaviors and microskills so you can compare yourself against them.
  • Quiz: click Start the quiz. For each question, select all the correct answers, or choose I don't have this knowledge yet, then click Next. StackFactor lets you know each time you pass a level. At the end, you'll see your proficiency level and when you can reassess.

Step 3: Your interest

Move the slider to show how much you want to grow in this skill, from Avoid to Pursue.

Step 4: Finish

Review the summary, add a short comment in Comments, and click Save. You'll see Skill assessment saved, or Skill assessment pending approval if your manager needs to approve it.

TIPS
  • You have 30 days to finish a quiz, and you can Pause it and come back. If you leave the page, StackFactor pauses the quiz for you.
  • If you end a quiz early, your proficiency is recorded at the level you've reached, and you can't take that skill's quiz again for 30 days.
  • To assess a skill that isn't part of your roles, choose Assess a new skill from the + menu on My Talent Stack.
